The Del Mar Highlands has changed immensely since I first lived in the area. So many new restaurants, a fancy new theater, and many new shops as well as a few of the staples like Barnes & Noble, Jimbo’s, and Red Robin. The one thing that hasn’t changed is the parking. Yes, they made a great improvement by cutting a hole in the middle of the complex so the back parking lot could be utilized more. I know this isn’t a review of the Highlands, but I hope that there is a next phase for improving the area with maybe a parking structure, perhaps?

I got the chance to try out the new Greek restaurant, Taverna Blu, with a fellow bUZZ Lady for lunch. There aren’t many Greek restaurants in the San Diego region besides Daphnes. It was a true pleasure trying out this new venue. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming; the staff attentive and friendly.

Prices are unbelievably reasonable. We shared 3 small plates at $6 each and each walked out only spending $12 with tip (and we were full). That is definitely the way to do it to get a taster of the offerings here. There are other options like Pitas and house specialties, which may be better for a dinner plate.

We ordered the shrimp, Greek tacos sampler, and calamari. I must note that when this plate was brought to our table, the manager or owner glanced at the plate. Without being asked, prompted, or informed that this plate looked a little wimpy, 5 minutes later we were brought a full plate of calamari and he apologized for the skimpy serving the first time. Now there’s a true lover of his customers and his restaurant.

I will definitely be bringing the bUZZ Ladies here at some point. This is a restaurant we need keep around for a long time.
